This is a simple and reliable way to measure tall objects. walk from the base of the object you are measuring untill when you bend over and look through your legs, you can just see the top of the object you're measuring, mark where your at, the distance from what you are measuring is the same height as the object, for this to work you have to know the length of your average stride, when bending over some indians would grab their ankles, or their knees either method works.
