I forget what this spear is called but its intended to use under ice or straight down from a boat. The center spike impales the fish and the two outer barbs hold the fish on. I used hickory and bamboo. First, skin the bark off about 12" or so from the end. Then wrap the shaft at the edge of the bark to keep it from splitting too far. I made the center spike from bamboo and glued it in with pine pitch. I then wrapped it with mimosa cordage further towards the front. The barbs are bamboo as well...i cut a "step" in each barb and a sister step in each prong to keep the barbs from sliding. I glued the barb in place with pine pitch, and then wrapped it in horse tail hair and a final pitch coating. This pic is one barb done and the other just wrapped in horse hair and ready for the pitch. Here is the finished spear.... I tried it out last spring and it worked perfectly on suckers and small carp. I tried it on a 20+lb. carp and he destroyed it...lol...you'll need to beef it up if you're after big fish.

Me wonders if a roll of black tape wouldn't speed up construction? I would be a hungry and impatient mood when I went to that much work to eat carp you know. (Note to self- never leave home w/ electicians tape- ever). ;D
LOL- I like the post- thanks Shane and keep them comming please.
